Aahoo Jahansouz, also known as Sarah Shahi (born January 10, 1980) is an American actress of Spanish-Iranian descent. A former NFL Cheerleader, Shahi was named #90 on the Maxim magazine "Hot 100 of 2005" list; she moved up to #66 in 2006. Sarah is married to actor Steve Howey, whom she met on the set of Reba in 2004. She has starred in The L Word and currently stars in Life.

Acting career
While working as an extra on the set of Dr. T and the Women, she met director Robert Altman, who encouraged her to move to Hollywood. Once in L.A., she got various recurrent roles in several famous series, such as Alias, where she played Jenny, and Dawson's Creek, where she was Sadia Shaw. Shahi was also the first ghost in Supernatural, the CW paranormal drama series.

She is best known for her role as the Mexican-American DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales in the Showtime drama television series The L Word, which she joined in its second season. Shahi did not renew her contract with the series for the fourth season, and consequently her character was written out. It was confirmed in 2008 that Sarah will make a guest appearance on the last season of, "The L Word". She appeared in the final episode (#8 Last Word) but only in a goodbye-video from Jenny for Bette and Tina.

She also played the role of Farah in the second season of Sleeper Cell. She also appeared in HBO's The Sopranos, in the Season 6b episode "Kennedy and Heidi", as Sonya Aragon, a stripper and college student who spends a weekend with Tony after a death in his family.

She is currently costarring in the NBC series Life along with British actor Damien Lewis as detective Charlie Crews. Shahi plays homicide detective Dani Reese. Her character is currently on loan to the FBI.


Personal life
Shahi speaks English, Persian, and some Spanish. She lived with her mother after her parents divorced, and has a brown belt in karate.

Sarah and husband Steve Howey are expecting their first child in 2009. She is working fewer hours a day on Life, and is seen in tight camera shots from the chest up to hide her pregnancy when appearing on the series on camera. Gabrielle Union is filling in as Detective Crew's female partner for the rest of the 2009 spring network season.

I was born and raised in Southern California, with brief but memorable moves to Costa Rica (8 years old) and Kentucky (17 years old). Most of my childhood was spent in Palm Desert, with weekly trips to visit my father who lived near the ocean. As an avid sun worshipper, it was only a matter of time before I moved to the beach full time.

Newport Beach has been my home for over 3 years now. Not the over dramatized, extravagant and pretentious one you see on 'The OC'. I'm fortunate enough to live in the 'real' Newport Beach where shorts and flip-flops are the staple of every wardrobe; where a beach cruiser is enough transportation to do all my grocery shopping, go out to dinner or visit many of my friends.

The surf and sand make a soothing backdrop for my daily run and the fresh air helps keep me alert during visits to my nearby gym. If you couldn't already tell by my photos, exercise and diet are a very big part of my life. I take great pride in looking exactly like the girl you see in my pictures. Many photographers have told me it makes their job much easier since they have little to no touch up on my photos, so I continue to try and work as hard as I can, for myself and for the camera.

During the first few years of college, I had braces on my teeth, slowly forming the smile you see today. I also waited tables at a local restaurant and almost once a month would get my dancing fix by going to Las Vegas for the amazing night life. I would always wear some of the skimpiest custom made outfits to try and make myself look older, in an attempt to get past the doormen (not even to drink, just to get in and dance). Eventually, I was approached by a Hollywood club promoter who told me I could get paid for doing the same thing. I started go-go dancing almost immediately at the most popular regular and afterhour L.A. hotspots and absolutely loved it.

After finally having my braces removed, I found that modeling was an excellent alternate source of income that would allow me a more regular schedule and what seems to be a more promising future. I still love to dance, but rarely get the chance as I am spending most of my days in school, casting or doing shoots as well as relaxing the few evenings I have at home. My options are still open at this point, as it is a lot of fun doing print, commercials, television, movies and music videos. I'll see if any of these provide a promising path to success in the next year or so as I continue to work towards my degree. At the Mid Summer’s Night Dream Party 2000, I felt like Cinderella at the ball as I entered the Playboy Mansion for the very first time. That will always be an amazing memory in my life. I didn’t want that night to ever end!

But that was just the beginning of my Cinderella story. I was invited back again to attend the Valentines party where I met Hef for the fist time. He scheduled a test shoot and before I knew what hit me, I was chosen to be Miss August 2001!!! And with that, like the stroke of a magic wand, my life changed forever! I’m very proud and excited to be a member of the Playboy family. I want to represent women in a very positive way just as Playboy has been doing for over 50 years.

I come from a very close family and everyone has been totally supportive of my being a Playmate. I was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and am one of four children. I have an older sister and two younger brothers. Growing up in Ohio was great! Our childhood was filled with swimming, boating, camping, ice skating, cheerleading and dance classes. Our house was filled with kids and all kinds of animals. I’ve always wanted to become a veterinarian.

In October 1996 I visited Los Angeles and decided to stay. I have to admit; the first few years were rough. I had two jobs most of the time, while taking business classes at Santa Monica College.

In 2000, I moved to Chicago so I could be closer to my grandmother who was very ill. After she passed away, I moved back to L.A. It was only a few months later when the whole Playboy thing took off!

A couple of years have passed since I became Miss August 2001. And what a crazy ride it has been! As I launch this website, I’d like to take you along for the ride…a look into the life of a Playmate; the endless airports, jet lag, traveling to the east coast only to turn around and fly back to the west coast in a single day. The many famous and exciting people that you meet, the places you get to visit…the long hours in makeup and wardrobe and on the set, the hours at the gym…

I plan on opening a spa with another Playmate, Nicole Wood. We are going to franchise off of her already successful spa. I still continue to work for Playboy and I love it! Because of Playboy, I have got to see all of the U.S., Asia and Europe. I have remained close friends with most of the girls from my year. I have purchased a home and have been able to do a lot of nice things for my friends and family because of Playboy!!! I have also become very involved in a lot of great charities. Ronald McDonald House was one charity that I volunteered at for the short time when I was in DC.... and I will continue to do so. It helps when you have made a name for yourself. I wish more celebrities took the time like Angelina and Pam do. I will be spending time in L.A. so look for me on TV and in movies next. I read all my fan mail and respond to all that I can. You can be with me through it all; the ups and downs, the smiles and the tears. This website will update you on jobs, Playboy events and my present life.
